Resolution 9800 RESOLUTION NO. 9800 WHEREAS, there is now under construction a causeway which will cross Biscayne Bay and connect the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach and which is commonly referred to as the 36th Street Causeway; and WHEREAS, the plans of the State Road Department of Florida contemplate twin bridge structures just southeast of that certain island known as Collins Island, which is owned by the City of Miami Beach and on which there is located a part of the Mt. Sinai Hospital; and WHEREAS, engineering studies have been made and as a result thereof the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida is of the opinion that the elimination of the planned twin structures and the replacement thereof with fill will in no way prevent the flow of water throughout the area nor create stagnation or the accumulation of debris, provided the submerged area, consisting of approximately 4 acres, and lying adjacent to and southerly of Collins Island, is filled and bulkheaded; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the State Road Department of Florida be and it is hereby requested to eliminate the planned twin structures just southeast of Collins Island and replace them with fill and to bulkhead and fill the area, consisting of approximately 4 acres lying adjacent to and southerly of said Collins Island. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Miami Beach recognizes that there will be no responsibility on the part of the State Road Department of Florida for a change in construction at a later date in the event a condition develops requiring an opening in the fill as originally designed and recommended by the State Road Department.
