Resolution 9835 RESOLUTION NO. 9835
WHEREAS it has come to the attention of the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach that the Metropolitan Dade County Commis-
sion and/or Port Authority is contemplating the flotation of a
$75,000,000 bond issue, and
WHEREAS it has further been made to appear to the City
Council from the public print that the Metropolitan Dade County
Commission and/or Port Authority is seeking to consummate the
issuance of said bonds prior to the enlargement of its member-
ship as the result of the forthcoming election, whereby an addi-
tional member from the City of Miami Beach and its environs will
be included therein, or that in the alternative that the Metro-
politan Dade County Commission is contending that it as presently
constituted is, and will continue to function as, the entire Port
Authority to the exclusion of incoming members of the Metropolitan
Dade County Commission, and
WHEREAS it cannot be gainsaid that such seeming and apparent
celerity of proposed action is incompatible with the magnitude of
the questions and issues involved,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, is opposed to further action being taken
by the Metropolitan Dade County Commission and/or Port Authority
relative to the proposed $75,000,000 Elliott Key Causeway Bond
issue until such time as the increased membership thereof has
been duly consummated, and that thereafter, the Metropolitan Dade
Commission and/or Port Authority as thus enlarged and constituted
hold such public hearings thereon as shall be commensurate with
the magnitude of the interests affected and the issues involved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolu-
tion be transmitted by the City Clerk to each member of the
Metropolitan Dade County Commission.
