2003-25178 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2003-25178 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING APRIL 30, 2003 THROUGH MAY 7, 2003 MUNICIPAL CLERK'S WEEK. WHEREAS, one of the oldest positions in local government today is the Municipal Clerk; and WHEREAS, the Municipal Clerk serves as the professional link between the citizens, the elected officials and agencies of government at other levels; and WHEREAS, the mission of the City Clerk is to perform as the secretary and custodian of the City Seal and compile official City Commission and Redevelopment Agency agendas and minutes. The City Clerk is committed to serve as facilitator in providing public records and information expeditiously to the City Commission, the general public, City staff and other governmental agencies. The Clerk's goal is to render high quality public service to those who live and visit the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, although the many responsibilities of the Municipal Clerk may be taken for granted, if they are negligent in their duties, then the smooth operation of local government is greatly affected; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks are continually striving to improve the administration of their duties through participation in educational programs, seminars, workshops and annual meetings of their state, province, county and international professional organization. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED that the week of April 30 through May 7, 2003 be designated as "Municipal Clerk's Week." ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Adopt the Resolution. ANALYSIS The Municipal Clerk is one of the oldest positions in local government today. The City Clerk serves as the professional link between the citizens, the elected officials and agencies of govemment at all levels. The City of Miami Beach will observe the Municipal Clerk's Week from Apd130, 2003 through May 7, 2003 with educational activities and a mock Commission meeting with the participation of students from Fienberg Fisher School, in conjunction with the Office of the Mayor and City Commission, Office of Children's Affairs and Media Relations Office. The City recognizes the responsibilities of the Municipal Clerk in providing public records and information expeditiously to the City Commission, the general public, City staff and other governmental agencies.
