Resolution 10428 RESOLUTION NO. 10428
WHEREAS the President of the United States has
manifested his interest and concern for the plight of
impoverished Cuban refugees in the County of Dade, displaced
and hapless victims of a revolution that promised liberty
and gave Communism, and
WHEREAS the President has initiated a program for
aid and assistance to said refugees, and has designated a
qualified representative to administer said program, and
WHEREAS the President has fittingly reaffirmed
this country's basic and historic credo that this great
nation is and of right ought to continue to be, a refuge
and sanctuary for the politically oppressed and persecuted;
a credo appropriately inscribed on the Statue of Liberty:
"Give me your poor, huddled masses . . .
Yearning to breathe free. . . "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, for itself, its individual members,
and the people of the City of Miami Beach, warmly endorses
the action taken by the President of the United States and
pledges its and their full and complete cooperation therewith,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that a certified copy of this resolution
be transmitted to the President of the United States at the
White House, and to the Honorable Tracy Vorhees, his duly
appointed representative in the aforesaid program.
