From:
Subject:
The Ordinance was approved on first reading on April 9, 2003. The Commission set a
second reading, public hearing for April 30, 2003. The Administration recommends that
the Commission adopt the Ordinance on second reading.
ANALYSIS
This amendment will increase the minimum of the salary ranges by 4% and the maximum
by 4% for the Unclassified employees as of pay period ending May 4, 2003. This
amendment is an effort to treat the Unclassified employees similarly to the employees
represented by the bargaining units. In general, employees in this group will receive a 4%
wage increase effective with the pay period ending May 4, 2003. This represents a 4%
Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA). As in prior years, this COLA is intended to apply to the
City Manager and City Attorney in addition to other Unclassified employees. This increase
will also provide additional incentives and competitiveness to attract and retain new and
existing employees in these classifications. The anticipated cost of the COLA for this year
is $471,555 and has already been included in the current budget.
CONCLUSION
On April 9, 2003, the Commission approved the Ordinance on first reading and set a
second reading and public hearing for April 30, 2003. The Administration recommends
that the City Commission adopt the Ordinance on second reading. By amending the
Unclassified Salary Ordinance, the City will ensure that there is a classification and
compensation system which is fair and externally competitive.
