SUBJECT : MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BUS ROU 115-REMOVAL OF BUS STOPS
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to report on the removal of bus stops along Route
115 in the City of Miami Beach by the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public
Works {DTPW). Attachment A depicts a map of Route 115.
On October 17, 2018, DTPW staff provided the City with a list of nineteen (19) bus stops that will be
removed along Route 115 within the City limits (Attachment B), effective Friday, October 19, 2018 .
Removal notices were placed by the County at the 19 impacted bus stops two (2) weeks in advance;
however, no formal County notification was provided to the City until October 17.
The removal of 19 bus stops along Route 115 by DTPW is the result of an operations analysis
conducted by the County that identified opportunities for consolidation of bus stops, particularly
those with very low ridership (fewer than ten (10) passenger boardings per day), while complying
with the County's adopted service standard of no more than five (5) bus stops per mile along a route.
It is worth noting that Route 115 is the only transit service currently operating along Alton Road
between 201h Street and 53rd Street. The total number of bus stops along Route 115 (prior to the
removal of 19 stops) was 103; thus, 18% of the bus stops along the route were removed. Of the 19
bus stops removed, twelve (12) were located along the northbound direction and seven (7) were
located along the southbound direction of the route. Most of the impacted bus stops were located
along Alton Road between 2th Street and 53rd Street. None of the bus stops removed had a bus
shelter and every bus stop removed has an alternative County bus stop within approximately 900
feet of the removed bus stop.
Miami Beach Trolley stops are not affected by the County's remova l of the 19 bus stops.
Notwithstanding, the City's Transportation Department staff will monitor both the potenti al effects of
the County's action as well as community feedback and will work with the County to coordinate any
modifications, as needed.
