SUBJECT : PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION AT TH ICON CONDOMINIUM (450 ALTON ROAD)
REQUIRING LANE CLOSURES ON SRA1AIMACARTHUR CAUSEWAY
EASTBOUND (TIME EXTENSION)
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to provide information on a proposed private
construction by the Icon Condominium at 450 Alton Road which will require lane closures for
four (4) additional days on SRA1A/MacArthur Causeway eastbound approaching Alton Road .
The original lane closure application approved by the City expired on October 1 0. The Icon has
requested a time extension in order to complete the landscaping work to be performed on the
pool deck of the Icon Condom inium. The work requires setting up a hydraulic crane on
eastbound MacArthur Causeway to lift trees and landscape materials to the Icon pool deck.
The Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Plan for the work proposes to close two (2) eastbound lanes
(eastbound right turn lane and center lane). The City has confirmed that two (2) eastbound
lanes are required due to the size of the crane and outriggers required to perform this work.
City staff has worked with the contractor to explore the possibility of placing the crane on Alton
Road south of 51h Street; however, the location of the pool deck with respect to the Icon building
would not allow the work to be performed from the Alton Road side.
The additional closures are proposed to occur from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM beginning Sunday,
October 28 at 1 OPM to Tuesday, October 30 at 5AM and will resume on Thursday, November 1
at 1 OPM and end on Friday, November 2 at 5AM. The crane will be removed and all eastbound
lanes will be opened by 5:00 AM each day.
It is important to note that adjacent to this location and concurrent with the above work, the
Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) is continuing its bridge rehabilitation project for
the MacArthur Causeway East Bridge. Currently, the FOOT work requires the continuous
closure of one (1) westbound lane.
