Resolution 10761 RESOLUTION NO. 10761
WHEREAS, our area has long been known as the
Gateway to the Americas ; and
WHEREAS, The Miami Herald -- through its
"Operation Amigo" program -- has brought large numbers
of Latin American youngsters to this area, as guests of
local school children and their families ; and
WHEREAS, these youngsters have toured Dade County
and adjacent communities, visited our homes and classrooms,
and participated in school activities . . . thus receiving a
first hand view of American life; and
WHEREAS, through "Operation Amigo" our children
are given an equal opportunity to become better acquainted
with their Latin American counterparts . . . thus furthering
the mutual respect and understanding which is the basis for
future peaceful and harmonious relations with our neighbors
of the western hemisphere;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of Miami Beach pay fitting tribute to The Miami Herald for its
outstanding contribution to the cause of inter-American friend-
ship and good will;
AND, FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that this resolution
become part of the permanent records of the City of Miami Beach
and a copy be presented to The Miami Herald as a tangible token
of our very warm and sincere admiration.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 16th day of May, 1962 .
