Resolution 2018-30558 RESOLUTION NO. 2018-30558 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROMPTLY REMEDIATE THE DETERIORATED CONDITION OF THE SIDEWALKS ON COLLINS AVENUE BETWEEN 47TH AND 63RD STREETS. WHEREAS, the sidewalk areas along Collins Avenue between 47th and 63'd Streets in the mid-Beach area in the City of Miami Beach (City) is the location of many large luxury hotels that attract a significant amount of tourists, and is the location of many large residential buildings that are home to City residents who, in addition to the significant tourist traffic in this area, see and traverse these sidewalks; and WHEREAS, the sidewalks in this particular area of mid-Beach have fallen into acute disrepair, as evidenced by their many cracks, discoloration, uneven grades, missing concrete segments, and general appearance as an eyesore; and WHEREAS, the deteriorated condition of these mid-Beach sidewalks is not only creating a negative image for the City, a world—renowned and major tourist destination, but it negatively reflects upon the State of Florida which owns and is tasked with properly maintaining these pedestrian walkways and thoroughfares; and WHEREAS, not only do these mid-Beach sidewalks detract from the City's positive image for visitors, but such derelict conditions also pose a tripping hazard to pedestrians; and WHEREAS, in the interest of public safety and the health and welfare of the public, the Mayor and City Commission urge the State of Florida, through its Department of Transportation, to promptly remedy and repair the deteriorate sidewalk conditions that currently exist in the mid- Beach area of the City between 47th and 63rd Streets. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby urge the Florida Department of Transportation to promptly remediate the deteriorated condition of the sidewalks on Collins Avenue between 47th and 63rd Streets.
