Resolution 10980 RESOLUTION NO. 10980
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida that it is opposed to any legislation seeking to
confer full homestead tax exemption to each unit in so-called
"Co-operative Apartment Houses" for the reasons that such living
units are not "homes" within the meaning of the term "homestead"
as used in the Constitutional amendment creating such exemption;
that such relatively transitory living units were not contemplated
by the people in approving said amendment to the Constitution, and
that the extension of such exemption to such living units would
enable the occupants thereof to enjoy the benefits of municipal
services without contributing an equitable portion of the cost
thereof; and would create havoc with established historical
municipal taxation and budgetary procedures, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
be transmitted to each Senator and to each member of the House
of Representatives from Dade County respectfully requesting his
or her earnest opposition to any proposed legislation of the
nature hereinabove described.
