Resolution 10982 RESOLUTION NO. 10982 WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is dependent upon its tourist industry, and WHEREAS, Metro originally represented that it would effect a saving to the citizens of this community, and WHEREAS, under private operation the bus fare was 15 cents or two trips for 25 cents, and WHEREAS, Metro has now proposed to increase the fare to 20 cents per trip, and WHEREAS, this increased fare would be higher than in any other area in the county, and WHEREAS, this increased fare would discriminate against the citizens of Miami Beach and the tourists who come into the Miami Beach area, and WHEREAS, this increase will impose a discriminatory economic hardship upon the citizens of Miami Beach, and WHEREAS, Miami Beach pays about 20% of the total taxes of Dade County and receives back in county services only a minute portion of that contribution, NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the Metro Commissioners and the Metro Manager be informed that the City Council of the City of Miami Beach has strong objections to the fare increase and urges immediate reconsideration of such increase.
