WHEREAS , Jackie Gleason has spread the name and fame of the
City of Miami Beach the length and breadth of the fifty states of
the United States of America, and, indeed, throughout the world,
and
WHEREAS , as the direct and proximate result of such
manifold, tangible benefits of
publicity, the Cityg

an infinite variety, and
WHEREAS , the said Jackie Gleason is an extraordinary
ambassador of good will for the City, and has otherwise demon-
strated such boundless devotion to all matters and things
redounding to the credit of the City that each citizen and
resident has benefited therefrom directly or indirectly, and
WHEREAS , it is therefore singularly and especially
appropriate that the City manifest its profound and permanent
appreciation to the said Jackie Gleason for his said manifold
contributions to the community,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that that certain road or drive
lying West of Washington Avenue and East of the Municipal Audi-
torium and the Convention Hall, extending from 17th Street to
20th Street and Washington Avenue, be and it is hereby designated,
and shall henceforth be forever known as Jackie Gleason Drive,
and that suitable and appropriate signs and marks bearing such
designation be permanently erected and maintained at and upon
said area hereby designated as Jackie Gleason Drive.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 17th day of February, 1965.
