Resolution 11458 RESOLUTION NO. 11458
WHEREAS, application has been made to the U. S. Army
Corps of Engineers for a permit to construct a bulkhead, and
to dredge and fill, in the Straits of Florida, at Long Reef,
approximately four miles east of Point Adelle on Elliott Key,
Florida, wherein it is proposed to enlarge Long Reef by fill-
ing to a height of 10 feet above mean high water, and to per-
form other substantial dredging, filling and bulkheading
operations. The purpose of such construction is to enable
Long Reef Key to be used for commercial purposes such as the
bunkering of oil for vessels that use the Gulf Stream, and
WHEREAS, such proposed operation would poise a continuous
grave threat of the destruction of the beaches of the City of
Miami Beach by the spillage of oil and petroleum tars into
the waters of the ocean bounding said beaches, all as set
forth in the various proceedings involving the projected con-
struction of the Seadade Oil Refinery, to which reference is
hereby made,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City of Miami
Beach is vigorously opposed to the granting of the permit
applied for and urges the denial of said application, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that a duly certified copy of this
Resolution be transmitted to the District Engineer, U. S.
Army Corps of Engineers, P. O. Box 4970, Jacksonville, Florida.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 7th day of April, 1965 .
