Resolution 11613 RESOLUTION NO. 11613 A RESOLUTION CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A SENIOR CITIZFNS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, PRE- SCRIBING ITS DUTIES, AND PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF APPOINTMENT AND THE TERM OF OFFICE OF ITS MEMBERS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that an Advisory Committee to be known as the City of Miami Beach Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and the same is hereby created and established, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, as follows: 1. Said Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall consist of seven (7) members; each of whom shall be appointed for a term of two (2) years. Each member of the City Council is authorized and empowered to appoint one (1) member of said Committee. In the event a member of the City Council refuses to exercise, or waives, his right to appoint a member of said Committee, such member shall be appointed by the City Council. In the event a vacancy shall occur in the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, the vacancy shall be filled by the Councilman, or the successor of the Councilman, who made the original appointment to the office in which the vacancy has occurred. 2. Members of this Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall serve without compensation, but sufficient funds shall be provided by the City Council in the annual City budget for rea- sonable and necessary expense to be incurred by the Senior Citi- zens Advisory Committee in the performance of its duties. The City Manager shall provide such administrative staff and clerical personnel as may be necessary to assist the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee in the proper performance of its duties and functions. 3. Each member of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall be a duly qualified resident of the City of Miami Beach and shall have indicated by his or her background and past record a sincere and dedicated interest in the welfare of our city and its citizens and those activities which are responsible for a better society. 4. The members of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall select from its membership a Chairman and a Vice Chairman who shall serve at the will of the majority of the said committee. Meetings shall be held at the pleasure of the Committee and upon the call of the Chairman or by the direction of a majority of the committee. The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall adopt rules of procedure governing its meetings and actions on matters within its jurisdiction and domain and shall conduct its meetings consistent with provisions of this resolution and Roberts Rules of Order. - 1 - 5. The said Advisory Committee shall have the following authority and duties: a. To serve as an advisory committee to the City Coun- cil of the City of Miami Beach and to make periodic written reports and recommendations to the City Council concerning the relationship between Senior Citizens and the community. b. To recommend to the City Council solutions and methods which will best serve the interest of our city and its Senior Citizens to the mutual advantage of both. c. To study and investigate all matters of importance to the Senior Citizens of our city and to the en- hancement and betterment of their position within the active life of our city.
