RESOLUTION NO. 11620
WHEREAS the Federal Government is the owner in fee of
those certain premises situate at the southerly portion of the
corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach and bordering on
Government Cut, and generally described as the easterly portion
of the "Government Reservation", and
WHEREAS said land is presently leased by the Federal
Government to the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS it is apparent that the Federal Government has no
need for said premises, either presently or in the reasonably
foreseeable future, and will in all probability continue to
remain in its undeveloped state, inasmuch as the Federal
Government has no plans for its improvement, and
WHEREAS said premises are vital to the general welfare of
the City of Miami Beach and it is prepared now to develop and
improve said premises and to utilize the same to the full
extent of its potentiality as a park, recreational center and
other proper and beneficial municipal purposes,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Federal Government be and
it is hereby requested and urged to convey the said premises to
the City of Miami Beach for a nominal consideration at the
earliest practicable date, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that certified copies of this Resolution
be transmitted to the Honorable Senators from the State of
Florida, Senator Spessard L. Holland and Senator George E.
Smathers, and to Congressmen Dante Fascell and Claude Pepper
for presentation to the appropriate Federal agencies and
officials for action.
