Resolution 11661 RESOLUTION NO. 11661
WHEREAS the Metropolitan Dade County Commission is consid-
ering amending the South Florida Building Code in such manner
so as to authorize and direct Metropolitan Dade County Building
Inspectors to oversee, supervise and enforce the provisions of
the South Florida Building Code within, as well as without, the
corporate limits of the several municipalities of Dade County,
Florida, and
WHEREAS it is the finding and determination of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that the inspectors
and employees of the City of Miami Beach Building Department
have been and are performing exemplary service in the enforce-
ment of said South Florida Building Code within the corporate
limits of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS structures and buildings in the City of Miami
Beach are exposed to greater hazards from the elements than
those in the interior of the County, and for this and other
reasons are therefore required to meet the most rigid stan-
dards possible, and whereas City of Miami Beach Inspectors
possess experience and skill with these rigid standards
acquired through long familiarity with the needs and require-
ments of the City of Miami Beach in the enforcement of said
South Florida Building Code, and
WHEREAS County Inspectors would be less familiar with the
rigid standards of construction and inspection enforced by City
of Miami Beach Inspectors under said South Florida Building
Code, and
WHEREAS it is the finding and determination of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach that County Inspectors, if
charged with the enforcement of the South Florida Building Code
within the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach, would
hinder and frustrate the proper enforcement and implementation
of said South Florida Building Code in conformity with the
needs of the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that it hereby expresses its
vigorous opposition to any proposed ordinance or amendment
thereto authorizing and directing County Inspectors to exercise
their functions within the corporate limits of the City of
Miami Beach and that the Metropolitan Dade County Commission be
and it is hereby formally requested to oppose such ordinance or
amendment thereto.
