Resolution 12368 RESOLUTION NO. 12368 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ENDORSING AMENDMENT TO THE METROPOLITAN CHARTER TO PROVIDE FOR ELECTION OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS BY AND FROM DISTRICTS, AND URGING RESIDENTS TO SUPPORT THE EFFORT TO OBTAIN PETITIONS. WHEREAS, the Citizens for Better Representation, a group of civic-minded citizens and organizations in Dade County, Florida, have obtained approval of a form of petition calling for an election to amend the Metro Dade County Charter to provide for election of County Commissioners by and from commission districts; and WHEREAS, the Dade County League of Municipalities has approved and endorsed the proposed amendment and has called upon municipalities of Dade County to cooperate and assist in obtaining the required signatures to the petitions to be circulated; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach is of the firm belief that it is in the best interest of the residents of Miami Beach as well as the residents of all municipalities and the unincorporated area of Dade County to amend the Charter to provide for election of County Commissioners by and from districts for the reason that such system of election will provide a more direct representation in accordance with the historical American tradition of government by and for the people, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Council wholeheartedly endorses the principle of election of County Commissionersby and from districts. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby calls upon the residents of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, to support fully the proposed amendment to the Metro Dade County Charter and to support in every manner the petition toplace the amendment upon the ballot by signing such petitions and assisting in the circulation of such petitions.
