Morales, City Manager DATE: November 27, 2018 SUBJECT: Committee for Quality Education Motions The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions regarding medical marijuana dispensaries in Miami Beach, approved at the November 27, 2018 committee meeting . C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer Meeting of November 27, 2018 City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Members Present: Karen Edelstein, Judith Berson-Levinson, Mary Keinath, Ivan Alvarez, Beth Edwards, Tiffany Heckler, Yvette Tache, Tiva Leser, Rachel Weissman, Monica Matteo- Santinas, Susie Stern, and Joshua Levy, Members Absent: Jordan Leonard, Betsy Mateu, and Karmenchu Santana-Vega Motion made by Beth Edwards Motion seconded by Monica Matteo-Santinas Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education recommends the Mayor and Commission consider the following in regards to medical marijuana dispensaries in Miami Beach: • Keep the same distance separation between medical marijuana dispensaries as the distance in feet already in place for night clubs and adult entertainment establishments • Keep with State distance minimum requirements of 500 feet property line to property line from schools • Not restrict distance requirement to schools only, but rather where legitimate youth programs are run out of like Jewish Community Center (JCC), Parks and Recreation programs , etc. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 12-0 Motion made by Monica Matteo-Santinas Motion seconded by Beth Edwards Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and Commission negotiate a percentage of profit from the medical marijuana dispensaries to go to local Miami Beach public schools. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 12-0
