A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ADJUSTING MR.
BLATT D/B/A SMOKES CONTRACT, INCREASING THE
PRICE OF CIGARETTES IN COIN OPERATED VENDING
MACHINES.
WHEREAS , at the present time, the City of Miami Beach
has a contract with Mr . Blatt D/B/A SMOKES , giving Mr . Blatt the
concession to sell cigarettes in coin operated vending machines in
various locations in the City of Miami Beach and the present price
of cigarettes in Mr . Blatt' s machines is $0 . 35 with $0 . 03 of the
amount paid to the City; and
WHEREAS, the Florida State legislature recently
increased taxes and Mr . Blatt has requested that he allowed to
raise cigarette prices to $0 .45 per pack effective April 1, 1968;
and
WHEREAS, the breakdown of the additional money will
distributed be as follows: 1) Additional taxes to the State of
Florida, $0 .08; 2) Paid to the City of Miami Beach, $0. 01 and 3)
retained by Mr . Blatt, $0 .01; and
WHEREAS, this would provide the City of Miami Beach with
a total return of $0 . 04 per pack; the additional $0 .01 payment
increases the City' s percentage on cigarette sales from 8 .6% to
9 .0%; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
That the City Council approved the new contract in a
telephone poll on March 28 and 29 , 1968 and that the council
hereby ratifies that action and formally approves the adjustment
to Mr. Blatt' s contract.
