Resolution 12437 RESOLUTION NO. 12437 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, FINDING AS TO THE NUMBER OF FREEHOLDERS LEGALLY QUALIFIED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD MAY 28, 1968; AND CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION AND DECLARING THE RESULT TO BE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF BONDS IN THE TOTAL SUM OF $9,745,000.00 FOR THE PURPOSES IN THIS RESOLUTION STATED. WHEREAS, the City Clerk and Finance Director in her capacity as Supervisor of Registration of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, has certified that the total number of freeholders legally qualified to participate in the Special Election held in said City on May 28, 1968, was 8,754, and WHEREAS, the City Council has made a canvass of the returns of the certifi- :;ates of the Clerks and Inspectors who held and conducted said Special Election held on May 28, 1968, such canvass having been made solely, exclusively and entirely from such returns, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESO'_VED by the City Council o.' the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that we do hereby find and declare that the total number of free- holders who were qualified electors residing in said City and who were determined by the City Clerk and Finance Director to be legally qualified to participate in the Special Election held in said City on May 28, 1968, was 8,754 and that a majority thereof participated in said election, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do hereby find and declare that the total number of votes cast in said election in favor of the approval of bonds and the total number of votes cast in said election against the approval of the bonds were as follows: UPON QUESTION NO. 1 : Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $1 ,000,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of EXTENDING EXISTING SANITARY SEWER OUTFALL EASTWARD IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN? 5,013 votes were cast of which 4,231 votes were for the bends. and 782 votes were against the bonds. UPON QUESTION NO. 2: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $705,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of MAKING IMPROVEMENTS TO THE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM? The improvements contemplated are: A 36" supply line replacement for the Porth Bay Causeway Bridges; Replace 5200 feet of existing water mains in West Avenue between 5th Street and 15th Street; Replace 3300 feet of 20" diameter pipe from 5th Street and West Avenue east to Ocean Drive; Miscellaneous mains in conjunction with street improvements. 4,934 votes were cast of which 4,030 votes were for the bonds and 904 votes were against the bonds. UPON f)UESTION NO. 3: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $4,700,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose .of ACQUIRING FROM THE DADE COUNTY BOARD OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED SCHOOL PROPERTIES: . South Beach Elementary; Feinberg Elementary; Ida M. Fisher Junior High; Nautilus Junior High ; North Beach Elementary Teacherage; Biscayne Elementary. 4,837 votes were cast, of which 2,638 votes were for the bonds and 2, 199 votes were against the bonds page 1 UPON QUESTION NO. 4: 4. Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $1 , 140,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of MAKING ASSESSABLE STREET LIGHT IMPROVEMENTS, for the payment of all or part of which a special annual tax will be levied, the amount of which levy will be reduced by collections from special improvement assessments made against abutting property, as authorized by law, on the following streets? 10th Street - Collins Avenue to Ocean Drive; Pennsylvania Avenue - 10th Street to 14th Street; Euclid Avenue - 10th Street to 14th Street; 14th Street - Lenox Avenue to Michigan Avenue; Michigan Avenue - 13th Street to 400' North of 14th Street; North Bay Road - Alton Road north to West 53rd Street• Rue Bordeaux Normandy.,riWct,erway through Easement to south side of Marseille Drive; West Avenue - 17th Street to Collins Canal ; West 34th Street - Sheridan Avenue to Royal Palm Avenue; 27th Street - Alton Road to Sunset Lake; West Avenue - 16th Street to 17th Street; Lincoln Road - Alton Road to West Avenue; Biarritz Drive - Normandy Waterway to Calais Drive. 4,706 votes were cast, of which 3,761 votes were for the bonds and 945 votes were against the bonds Page 3 UPON QUESTION NO. 7: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $165,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the payment of THE CITY'S SHARE OF MATCHING FEDERAL FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTING A COMMUNITY CENTER? 4,618 votes were cast, of which 3, 199 votes were for the bonds and 1 ,419 votes were against the bonds UPON QUESTION NO. 8: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $500,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of CONSTRUCTING A FIRE STATION AND PURCHASING A PUMPER AND ADDITIONAL FIRE HYDRANTS? 4,526 votes were cast, of which 3,548 votes were for the bonds and 978 votes were against the bonds UPON QUESTION NO. 9: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $260,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of PAVING VARIOUS STREETS, INCLUDING SIDEWALKS AND CURBS AND GUTTERS, for the payment of all or pert of which a special annual tax will be levied, the amount of which levy will be reduced by collections from special improvement assessments made against abutting property, as authorized by law, on the following streets? 11th Street, Alton Road to West Avenue; 10th Street, Alton Rnad to West Avenue; 9th Street, Alton Road to West Avenue; 12th Street, Alton Road to West Avenue; 13th Street, Alton Road to West Avenue; 15th Terrace, Alton Road to Bay Road; 16th Street, West Avenue to Bay Road; Biarritz Drive from Normandy Drive to Normandy Waterway; Rue Granville from the Bay to Normandy Waterway; Verdun Drive from Normandy Drive to Calais Drive. 4,628 votes were cast of which 3,410 votes were for the bonds and 1 ,218 votes were against the bonds UPON QUESTION NO. 10: Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida, issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of $460,000.00 with interest at a rate to be hereafter determined, not exceeding 6% per annum, for the purpose of MAKING NON-ASSESSABLE IMPROVEMENTS TO STREETS, INCLUDING PAVING, CURBING AND GUTTERING AND SIDEWALKS, on the follow'ng streets? 11th Street, Alton Road to Meridian Avenue; Pine Tree Drive, 51st Street to 63rd Street. 4,488 votes were cast, of which 3,236 votes were for the bonds and 1 ,252 votes were against the bonds and, WHEREAS, a majority of the total number of freeholders who were qualified electors residing in said City, and legally qualified to participate in said Special Election, did vote therein, and page 4 WHEREAS, a majority of the votes cast on Questions Numbers 1 , 2, 3, 4 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 were in favor of the approval of the bonds, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we do hereby declare that the issuance of bonds in the aggregate sum of $9,745,000 as set forth and provided for in Questions Numbers 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 as described in this resolution, has been duly and legally approved by the voters, as provided by law.
