Resolution 12473 RESOLUTION NO. 12473
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, that the Metropolitan Dade County Commission and each
and every member thereof, be formally advised and informed
that the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, for
itself and as the duly elected representative of the citizens
and residents of the said. City, is vigorously opposed to the
adoption by the Metropolitan Dade County Commission of the
so-called "Uniform Penal Ordinance" and to its companion
ordinance diverting the City ' s lawful share of the revenues
emanating from the Metropolitan Court system for the following
reasons:
1. That the people of the City of Miami Beach are determined
to protect and to preserve their local government against
further unauthorized usurpation by Metropolitan-Dade
County, and
2. That the said diversion of lawful revenues from the City
of Miami Beach will appreciably increase the tax burden
upon the citizens of the City of Miami Beach who are
already bearing a grossly inequitable portion of the
(:ver-increasing tax burden imposed by the Metropolitan
Dade County government.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said Metropolitan Dade County
Commission defer submitting said ordinances to the approval of
the electorate of Dade County until the electorate has been
given an adequate opportunity to study the issues involved and
that if it be determined that said ordinances should be sub-
mitted to the electorate for their approval or rejection, then
in such event, that the electorate of each municipality be
given the opportunity to so approve or to so reject said
ordinances, and that the said ordinances be held inoperative
in those municipalities which have failed to approve said
ordinances.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be
transmitted to each member of the Metropolitan Dade County
Commission.
