Resolution 11801 RESOLUTION NO. 11801
WHEREAS the citizens of Miami Beach, Florida have long and
patiently assumed and carried the onerous financial burden of
making available to the entire populace of Dade County well
maintained and guarded ocean beaches, all without murmur by the
City of Miami Beach, notwithstanding the total lack of any
manifestation by Dade County to contribute to the cost of the
maintenance and guarding of said beaches, but
WHEREAS the ever-increasing cost of Federal, State and
County government now make it financially impossible for the
citizens of Miami Beach alone to continue bearing a burden
which is not rightfully their own, and
WHEREAS it is only meet and proper that Dade County should
acknowledge its rightful duty and obligation in the premises to
the citizens of Dade County, and the City of Miami Beach,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Metropolitan Dade County
Board of Commissioners be and they are hereby formally moved
and requested to assume forthwith the cost and expense of main-
taining said ocean beaches within the confines of the City of
Miami Beach and the payment of the life guards serving said
beaches, and appropriate forthwith for reimbursement of the
City the sum or sums required for said purposes, or in the
alternative that Dade County directly take over and assume at
its own cost and expense the duties and responsibilities of
maintaining and guarding the ocean beaches within the City, as
its rightful burden of providing the same for all of Dade
County, provided, however, that in the event of such assumption
and taking over, that Dade County shall continue the existing
high standards of maintenance and guarding heretofore and now
provided by the City of Miami Beach.
