Resolution 12581 RESOLUTION NO. 12581
WHEREAS the North Shore Oceanfront Park, located between
81st Street and 87th Street, in the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
has been proposed and designated a regional park to the Board of
County Commissioners of Dade County, Florida, on July 21, 1964,
under title, "A Plan for Major Park and Recreational Lands in
Metropolitan Dade County, Florida", said plan being prepared by
the Dade County Planning Department at the request of the County
Manager and the Board of County Commissioners, and
WHEREAS the proposed oceanfront development is urgently
needed to serve the recreational requirements of the rapidly growing
numbers of Metropolitan Dade County residents, other than the
residents of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach, Florida, has issued
General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $1,500, 000.00 for the
purpose of acquiring the property between 81st Street and 87th
Street for public park purposes, and
WHEREAS the United States Department of Housing and
Urban Development has approved an Open Space Program Grant for
50% matching funds to acquire the subject property, and
WHEREAS the taxpayers of the City of Miami Beach, Florida
pay a disproportionate share of tax funds collected by Metropolitan
Dade County, as compared to the benefits received by said City from
Dade County,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the duly elected
representatives of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, constituting
and acting as the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
do hereby request of the Board of County Commissioners of Dade
County that funds be made available as a contribution of said County
to be used to make up any deficiency of funds to be required to
complete the acquisition of, and provide for the development of,
said oceanfront property and public park purposes, in an amount
not to exceed the contribution of the City of Miami Beach, as set
forth above.
