LTC 632-2018 City of Miami Beach Community Rating System (CRS) VerificationMIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # LETTER TO COMMISSION 832-2018 TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: December 11, 2018 SUBJECT: City of Miami Beach Community Rating System (CRS) Verification I am very pleased to share a recent notification letter with the preliminary results of the City's Community Rating Score audit. The vigorous and detailed audit took place in- person August of 2017, and has taken nearly a year-and-a-half of review by ISO (Insurance Services Office) Specialists. Miami Beach participates in Community Rating System of the National Flood Insurance Program and has pursued an aggressive goal to improve our ranking from a Class 6 to a Class 5. In addition to implementing activities that reduce flood risk, this accomplishment will save residents and businesses money on their flood insurance premiums. Our new score is an improvement from Class 6 to Class 5, increasing savings from 20% to 25% citywide. This brings our estimated savings from $6.6 million to $8.3 million annually. The CRS rating improvement is the result of the hard work of Building, Resilience, Environmental and Sustainability, Emergency Management, Planning, and Public Works over the past three-years. I look forward to sharing more information when I receive the formal letter from FEMA and when the results of the verification become effective May 1, 2019.
