2003-25227 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2003-25227 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER RENAMING ISLAND VIEW PARK, LOCATED AT 18xn STREET AND PURDY AVENUE, TO "MAURICE GIBB MEMORIAL PARK." WHEREAS, a request to rename Island View Park to "Maurice Gibb Memorial Park" came before the Community Affairs Committee for discussion and recommendation at its meeting on May 20, 2003; and WHEREAS, the Community Affairs Committee considered and reviewed the aforestated renaming of said public facility and, after reviewing the proposal in accordance with the established selection criteria, as set forth in Article VI, Section 82-501 through 82-504 of Chapter 82 of the Miami Beach City Code, unanimously recommended that the Mayor and City Commission consider the proposal to rename Island View Park to "Maurice Gibb Memorial Park"; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Article VI of Miami Beach City Code, Chapter 82-504, the Mayor and City Commission must now hold a public hearing to consider the aforesaid renaming. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing to consider renaming Island View Park, located AT 18th Street and Purdy Avenue, to "Maurice Gibb Memorial Park", is hereby called to be held before the Mayor and City Commission in their Chambers on the Third Floor of City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida, at 10:30 a~ on Wednesday, JuLy 2., 2003, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish appropriate Public Notice of the said Public Hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Miami Beach, at which time and place all interested parties will be heard. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENTATION Adopt the resolution. ANALYSIS. At the Community Affairs Committee meeting of May 20, 2003, a request was made by the Maurice Gibb family for Island View Park to be re-named the Maurice Gibb Memorial Park. A motion was made by Commissioner Steinberg, seconded by Commissioner Bower, recommending approval of this request to the City Commission for the re-naming of the park to be placed on the ballot for the November 2003 election. Pursuant to Chapter 82 of the Miami Beach City Code, the City Commission is required to consider the proposal at a public hearing. As such, the Administration is requesting that a public hearing be set to consider said proposal. If the City Commission approves said proposal by 5/7th vote at the public hearing, then the name selection will be submitted to the electorate of the City by referendum at the next regularly scheduled election. The name selection must then be approved by a majority of the electorate voting atthe referendum in order to change the name of Island View Park to "Maurice Gibb Memorial Park". CONCLUSION The Administration recommends that the City Commission set the required public hearing to consider renaming Island View Park to "Maurice Gibb Memorial Park".
