A RESOLUTION OF THE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE MIAMI
BEACH REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY(RDA),SETTING THE DATES FOR
THE YEAR 2019 RDA MEETINGS.
WHEREAS, pursuant to its By-Laws,the Miami Beach Redevelopment Agency(RDA)shall
meet at such times as prescribed by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission also sit as the RDA, and schedule the
Redevelopment Agency meetings to coincide with the City Commission meetings; and
WHEREAS,the Administration suggests that when scheduling the 2019 RDA meeting dates,
the RDA Members accomplish four goals: 1) schedule one RDA meeting a month; 2)schedule the
RDA meetings on the same day as the City Commission meetings; 3) schedule RDA Meetings on
Wednesdays; and 4) not schedule RDA meetings during the month of August, while the RDA is in
recess; and
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS
OF THE MIAMI BEACH REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY,that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
approve the proposed 2019 RDA Meeting dates set forth in Exhibit"A" hereto.

SUBJECT:A RESOLUTION OF THE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE MIAMI
BEACH REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY (RDA), SETTING THE DATES FOR THE
YEAR 2019 RDA MEETINGS. JOINT CITY COMMISSION AND
REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
Pursuant to Section 2.04 of the Miami Beach City Charter, the RDA shall meet at such times as may
be prescribed by ordinance or resolution.
The City Clerk recommends that when preparing the RDA meeting calendar, the RDA take into
consideration the following events: U.S. Conference of Mayors; Miami-Dade County Days;Art Basel;
ICMA Conference; August recess; September to set the tentative/final millage and budget approval;
November for election/runoff election meetings (if it is an election year); and Federal (Attachment A)
& Religious Holidays (Attachment B).
In order to make the RDA meetings more efficient and prevent residents from spending multiple hours
waiting for a time certain item to be heard, Mayor Philip Levine proposed in 2013 that presentations
and awards only meetings be scheduled at different times throughout the year. By placing the
presentations and awards on an alternate meeting date, the regular RDA meetings will start business
on time, which will increase the likelihood that time certain agenda items are taken up at the time
listed, or closely thereafter.Additionally, having a designated Presentations and Awards/RDA meeting
will provide the City Commission with an opportunity to properly acknowledge and show gratitude to
those individuals or groups who have taken an active role in serving our community. If needed, the
Presentations and Awards/RDA meeting may be utilized for items that are deemed emergencies
and/or continued or not reached during the previous Commission meeting. On those months without
a separate Presentations and Award/RDA meeting, the Presentations & Awards/RDA items will be
heard at 5:00 p.m.
The City Clerk suggests that when scheduling the 2019 RDA meeting dates, the RDA accomplish
four goals: 1) schedule one RDA meeting a month; 2) schedule at least three separate Presentations
and Awards/RDA meetings per year (five are being proposed); 3) schedule RDA meetings on
Wednesdays; and 4) not schedule RDA meetings during the month of August, while the RDA is in
recess.

CONCLUSION
The City Clerk recommends that the Chairperson and Members of the RDA approve the RDA
meeting dates and the Presentations &Awards/RDA meeting dates for 2019.
Upon approval of the Commission meeting dates, an after the fact Resolution will be drafted.
