A RESOLUTION ENDORSING APPLICATION OF ART IN
PUBLIC PLACES(, INC. TO NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR
THE ARTS FOR MATCHING GRANT FOR THE ERECTION OF
AN OUTDOOR SCULPTURE ON THE CONVENTION CENTER
COMPLEX IN THE VICINITY OF THE THEATER OF THE
PERFORMING ARTS .
WHEREAS, on December 10 , 1975, the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, endorsed the request of Art in Public
Places, Inc. to erect a monumental outdoor sculpture of artistic
merit on the Convention Center Complex in the area of the Theater
of the Performing Arts, and
WHEREAS, said Art in Public Places, Inc. has requested
the City Council of the City of Miami Beach to endorse this project
at no cost to the City, so that said Art in Public Places, Inc . may
acquire matching funds from the National Endowment for the Arts
'and to raise an equivalent amount from local citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Council does hereby
endorse said proposal and does hereby approve the application by
Art in Public Places, Inc. to the National Endowment for the Arts
for a matching grant in the amount of $50 ,000 for such sculpture;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager be and he is hereby
authorized to assist and acknowledge formally on behalf of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, the Council ' s endorsement of
• such application by Art in Public Places, Inc. , said application
and subsequent installation to be without cost to the City of
Miami Beach.
