Morales, City Manager DATE: January 23, 2019 SUBJECT: Committee for Quality Education Mot'.ns The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions regarding medical marijuana dispensaries, retail establishment/smoke shops, pedestrian crossing on 41s` Street, and M-DCPS 2019 legislative priorities, approved at the January 22, 2019 committee meeting. C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Learning Development Office KGB/LDR City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of January 22, 2019 Members Present: Karen Edelstein, Judith Berson-Levinson, Mary Keinath, Ivan Alvarez, Beth Edwards, Tiffany Heckler, Tiva Leser, Rachel Weissman, Monica Matteo-Santinas, Susie Stern, and Joshua Levy, Members Absent: Jordan Leonard, Betsy Mateu, Yvette Tache and Karmenchu Santana-Vega Motion made by Karen Edelstein Motion seconded by Beth A. Edwards Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to consider the following items with regards to the City's medical marihuana dispensaries: 1. Require a minimum of 1,200 feet distance between medical marihuana dispensaries; and, 2. No aggressive and obvious marijuana signage on the front and back windows and doors of these dispensaries. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Karen Edelstein Motion seconded by Rachel Weissman Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to consider the following items with regards to the City's retail establishments and smoke/vape shops: 1. Require a minimum of 1,200 feet distance between smoke and vape shops; and, 2. No aggressive and obvious smoke/vape signage and paraphernalia on the front and back windows and doors of any retail establishments. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Dr. Judith Berson-Levinson Motion seconded by Tiffany Heckler Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education is requesting assistance from the Mayor, Commissioners, and City Manager to urge FDOT to install a well identified pedestrian crossing across 41st Street at N. Jefferson Ave. (Starbucks and Burger King)especially following a student who was hit and badly injured while crossing. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Beth A.
