Junior Police Academy June 16th--July 3

This Letter to the Commission is to advise the Mayor and City Commission of the Police
Department's inaugural Junior Police Academy session.
The Junior Police Academy is geared toward sixth graders who have demonstrated good
conduct, grades, and a positive attitude. The students will participate in an intensive 56
lesson plans over a 3 week period encompassing fingerprinting to accident investigations.
Field trips to the police museum and a swim day are also planned.
The Police Department partnered with the Miami Beach Police Athletic League, State
Attorney's Office, FBI, DEA, and ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) to provide the
instruction to the participants.
The Academy's mission is to reward kids for good behavior while preparing them for the
Police Explorer's program. Ultimately, this investment in our children will instill civic pride
and maybe even provide our community with future police officers.
