A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING STATE DE-
PARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND METROPOLITAN DADE
COUNTY TO FILE OF RECORD FORTHWITH THE FILING OF
A RIGHT-OF-WAY PLAN EMBRACING SIXTIETH STREET
AND COLLINS AVENUE AND TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION
TO ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY RIGHT-OF-WAY TO ELIMI-
NATE THE HAZARDOUS CURVE AT SIXTIETH STREET AND
COLLINS AVENUE AND ADVISING SAID AGENCIES THAT
FAILURE TO ACQUIRE SAID RIGHT-OF-WAY FORTHWITH
FOR THE WIDENING OF COLLINS AVENUE POSES A DI-
RECT AND IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE HEALTH, SAFETY
AND WELFARE OF THE CITIZENS OF MIAMI BEACH AND
TO THE PUBLIC.
WHEREAS, the continued existence of the hazardous curve
in the vicinity of Sixtieth Street and Collins Avenue in the City
of Miami Beach poses a direct and immediate threat to the health,
safety and welfare, not only to the citizens of the community, but
also to all traffic, pedestrian and vehicular, using Collins Ave-
nue in the vicinity of Sixtieth Street, and
WHEREAS, the plans for the acquisition of said right-of-
way for the widening of Collins Avenue have been agreed upon by the
State Department of Transportation and Dade County for a prolonged
period of years, but no affirmative action or step has yet been
taken by either to fulfill and execute said plans, and
WHEREAS, the failure to implement said plan will enable
private developers to carry out projected plans for a detrimentally
excessive development of said area thereby provoking and creating
a crisis situation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the State Department of
Transportation and Metropolitan Dade County be and they are hereby
urged to take immediate and imperative action to acquire the
necessary right-of-way to eliminate the dangerous and hazardous
curve at Sixtieth Street and Collins Avenue and vicinity and to
proceed posthaste and forthwith with the filing of the proposed
right-of-way indicating and evidencing the intent of the State of
Florida and the County of Dade to acquire said area immediately
for sidewalk, street and highway purposes;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager be and he is
hereby authorized and directed to bring to the immediate attention
of the proper officials of the State of Florida and Metropolitan
Dade County the urgent and imperative necessity for immediate and
emergency action in the premises.
