A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOMMENDING
SUBMISSION TO THE ELECTORATE AT THE NOVEMBER,
1978 GENERAL ELECTION OF THE ISSUE OF LEGAL-
IZED GAMBLING IN SOUTH FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the issue of legalized casino gambling in South
Florida has been evocative of• great public interest and has been
the subject matter of considerable debate; and has occupied con-
siderable attention of the news media, and
WHEREAS, the ultimate decision upon said issue rests with
the people of the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS, it is a traditional and basic principle of
American democracy that issues affecting the public should be sub-
. mitted to its decision at open and fair elections;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it strongly urges and recom-
mends that the issue of a constitutional amendment authorizing and
permitting legalized casino gambling in South Florida be placed
upon the ballot at the general election to be held in November,
1978 so that the basic principle of American democracy permitting
the people to resolve and determine matters affecting their general
interest be fulfilled.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that proper distribution and dissemination •
of this Resolution be made to all interested governmental officials
and news media.
