A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING ITS
APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE AND THAT OF THE
CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH FOR THE EXEMPLARY PUBLIC SERVICE OF
THE CITY MANAGER, DODD A. SOUTHERN.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that said Commission, each member thereof,
for itself and on behalf of the citizens and residents of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, are profoundly and immeasurably appre-
ciative and grateful for the integrity, selfless devotion to duty
and his faultless performance of the intricate, complex, and chal-
lenging duties and responsibilities of the high and responsible
office of the City Manager of the City of Miami Beach, Florida.
The City Manager, DODD A. SOUTHERN, has served the City
of Miami Beach, its citizens and residents, continuously and unin-
terruptedly from March 7, 1973 to December 8, 1976 as Assistant
City Manager and from December 9, 1976 to July 18, 1978 as City
' Manager, at which time he has resigned from said office because of
the increasing economic demand imposed by his familial obligations
and the desire to utilize his exceptional and brilliant talents and
energies sphere of private governmental consultation.
His tenure as Assistant City Manager and City Manager has
been marked and characterized by the expenditure of countless hours
and immeasurable energy. His dedication to duty; his brilliance of
intellect; and his deep pervading and unswerving loyalty in the
best interest of the City of Miami Beach and its citizens has been
a constant source of inspiration to the members of the City Commis-
sion and to the entire personnel of the City.
His tenure as Assistant City Manager and City Manager
coincided and was contemporaneous with the most vital and critical
chapters in the history of the community and of its citizens and
the record of his accomplishments as the chief administrative
officer of the City has exemplified by the number of capital im-
provements and Public Works achieved under his direction and which
will serve as a perpetual monument to his brilliant attainments and
immeasurable contributions to the City -of Miami Beach.
His voluntary withdrawal from his duties and responsibi-
lities as City Manager of the City of Miami Beach evokes the deep
and profound regret of each and every member of the City Commission
of the City of Miami Beach and of the entire personnel and admin-
istration of said City, all of whom unite with warm unanimity that
his future will be characterized by ever-growing brilliance, inspi-
rational achievement, and glowing success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE. CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a certified copy of this Resolution
be presented to the said DODD A. SOUTHERN, as evidence of its beliefs
and sentiments as hereinabove expressed.
