Resolution 79-15839 1.- V RESOLUTION NO. 79-15839 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA CONDEMNING BILLY CARTER FOR ANTI-SEMITIC STATEMENTS. . WHEREAS, during the week of February 11th through the 17th, 1979, it was reported in the Miami News that Billy Carter has again made comments concerning American Jews which comments are of an anti-Semitic nature and antithetical to the principles of democracy, liberty and justice, which principles are the corner- stone of our American way of government, (a copy of the Miami News article being attached hereto as Exhibit "A") ; and WHEREAS, because Billy Carter is the brother of the President of the United States, said remarks, which are reprehen- sible in their own right, become more reprehensible because of said relation to the President of the United States, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF ' THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the remarks of Billy Carter as reported in the attached article published in the Miami News be, and they are hereby, condemned as being contrary to the precepts that are the cornerstone of this nation, and FURTHER RESOLVED, that the President of the United States, Senators Stone and Chiles, and all members of the Florida Delegation to the United States House of Representatives be and they are hereby encouraged and called upon to publicly condemn the despicable remarks above referred to, and FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of Miami Beach be, and she is hereby, directed to forward a copy of this Reso- lution to the persons mentioned in the paragraph above.
