A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOMMENDING AND URGING THE
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND THE BOARD
OF BUSINESS REGULATION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO
TAKE THE APPROPRIATE STEPS TO AWARD THE MIDDLE
RACING DATES OF THE NEXT WINTER RACING SEASON TO
THE HIALEAH PARK RACE TRACK.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, Florida, has a very
substantial tourist industry; and
WHEREAS, one of the amusements which attracts tourists
to the City of Miami Beach are the various race tracks in South
Florida; and
WHEREAS, the operation of these race tracks in South
Florida substantially benefits the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, Hialeah Park Race Track is one of the race
tracks in the South Florida area which attracts tourists to Miami
Beach; and
WHEREAS, the continued successful operation of Hialeah
Park Race Track is necessary to the continuing welfare of the
tourist industry of Miami Beach and to the citizens and taxpayers
of Miami Beach and of Dade County in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Hialeah Park Race Track is currently in
straitened financial condition; and
WHEREAS, the awarding of the middle racing dates for the
next racing season to the Hialeah Park Race Track would be very
helpful to Hialeah Park in extricating itself from its present
financial condition; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach would like to ensure the
continued successful operation of the Hialeah Park Race Track in
order to benefit its tourist trade;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission would
urge the Florida Legislature and the Florida Board of Business
Regulation to award the middle racing dates for the next winter
racing season to the Hialeah Park Race Track.
