A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND HONORING MARGARET (PEGGY)
L. MAC KAY FOR FORTY-THREE YEARS OF DEVOTED AND LOYAL
SERVICE TO THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND ITS CITIZENS;
FOR SERVING AS A GUIDE, CONFIDANT AND FRIEND TO THE
CITY'S HIGHEST OFFICIALS; AND FOR IMBUING THE OFFICE
OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY WITH STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE
AND INTEGRITY FOR WHICH SHE WILL BE FOREVER LOVED
AND REMEMBERED.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been dear to the
heart of a young Peggy Mac Kay who would accompany her parents on
visits to this City before it was incorporated in March of 1915; and
WHEREAS, when tragedy came to her with the loss of her
husband in Yonkers, New York, she found refuge and comfort in Miami
Beach as one would in finding solace with a friend; and
WHEREAS, no task was too menial for Peggy if she could •
live in her beloved Miami Beach and raise her young daughter in
this beautiful City which she desired to serve; and
WHEREAS, to work with the City she willingly accepted
the job of elevator operator; and
WHEREAS, in the true spirit of American Democracy and
American tradition she went to school at night and learned typing
and shorthand, and did those commendable things which enabled her
to realize her true potential so that she could become an aide to
the City' s list of outstanding City Managers and eminent Mayors; and
WHEREAS, in her many years of devoted and dedicated
service to the City of Miami Beach which became synonymous with •
her life, the welfare of one became as important to her as the
welfare of the other; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, for itself, on behalf of all •
its citizens; the entire official administration and myself, Dr.
Leonard Haber, as Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, that this Reso-
lution be adopted as a formal expression of profound appreciation
and grateful recognition of the exceptionally devoted services
rendered this City and its citizens by this noble and dedicated
employee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION AND ALL
ITS OFFICIALS that a suitably embossed official copy of this Reso-
Iution by the City of Miami Beach be presented to Peggy Mac Kay
as a permanent memory of her unparalleled service.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 16th day of May , 1979 .
