City Manager /J;] ~ ~ EXPIRATION OF[~ONTRACT FOR COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF RESIDENTIAL SOLID WASTE, YARD TRASH, BULK WASTE, AND OPERATION OF THE CITY'S SOLID WASTE MANA6EMENT FACILITY. From: Subject: Browning Ferris Industries Waste Systems of North America, Inc. (BFI) has provided the collection and disposal of residential solid waste and operation of the City's solid waste management facility since October 18, 2000. The initial two-year term expired on October 31,2002. The terms of the Agreement allows for three additional one (1) year renewals at the discretion of the City. On September 26, 2002, the Mayor and Commission authorized the first one year term renewal which expires October 31,2003. The Administration is evaluating the performance of BFI to determine if it is in the best interest of the City to renew the current contract for another year. The evaluation includes the following: Customer service and related complaints Results of the customer satisfaction survey to be conducted by the Neighborhood Services Department Cost and service comparison to neighboring cities Contract enhancements that might be negotiated Upon completion of the evaluation, a recommendation will be presented to the City Commission. c: Robert Middaugh, Assistant City Manager Fred Beckmann, Director Public Works Patricia Walker, Chief Financial Officer Alberto Zamora, Sanitation Division Director Gus Lopez, Director Procurement
