Commission FROM: Jimmy Morales, City Manager DATE: February 28, 2019 SUBJECT: Motions Made by the Disability Access Committee on January 15, 2019 On January 15, 2019, the Disability Access Committee (DAC) approved the following motion (revised from January 2018 to include cost figures): Motion: The members request the City to provide funding for making a 3D model, aerial view of South Beach, tactile map with Braille and text overlay for universal access, to be placed in City Hall first floor for easy access to the public. The size is approximately 6ft wide by 52"tall. See attached image of tactile map with Braille sample in render in City Hall wall. The cost of labor and materials is $15,000.00 plus installation of approximately $2,500.00. Motion made by: David New Seconded by: David Leeds. Adopted 9-0 by voice vote Member David New has worked with students at Carta Lab, which has an office on Lincoln Rd, for the sample map and has an on-going conversation on the subject. The installation will be done by a third party. Motion: The members request to reappropiate the beach funds from the 2013 Parking Fines Reimbursement fund in the mount of$60,866 to remain and be used for beach access. These funds had been allocated for the Allison Park ADA Beach enhancements but were not used. Funds to be used as follows: to purchase a motorized beach wheelchair in the range of$12,500; 4 beach walkers, approximately $1,200 total; $12,000 to test new beach surfacing material (vendor comparable to Mister Boardwalk) for at least one beach entrance to sample. The remainder of the funds to support the monthly beach access programming by Sabrina Cohen Foundation at Allison Park. Motion made by: Sandy Rojas Seconded by: Nancy Soler-Rammos. Adopted 9-0 by voice vote. Motion: The members recommend the City to provide funds for the South Beach Festival in January 2020 as a disability awareness event.
