A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE DADE COUNTY
SCHOOL BOARD TO USE CLASSROOM SPACE AT IDA M. FISHER
FOR USE BY LEROY D. FIENBERG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ALLEVIATING THE OVERCROWDED CONDITIONS;
TO CONTINUE LEROY D. FIENBERG AS THE ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL FOR ALL CHILDREN LIVING IN SOUTHERN MIAMI
BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Dade County School Board is considering
boundary changes that would have serious effect on the future
development of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the south end of Miami Beach has experienced
an overpopulation of school-aged children; and
WHEREAS, this problem has been partially solved by
using classroom space at Ida M. Fisher, located just across the
street from Leroy D. Fienberg Elementary School, and the over-
crowding problem can be fully solved by using more space at
Ida M. Fisher and combining the two facilities , and this can
be accomplished without interfering with the use of Ida M. Fisher
as a Community School for adult education; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to the future of Miami Beach
to keep intact the existing school boundaries, if we hope to
attract young families with school-aged children to live on
Miami Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Miami Beach City
Commission will take strong positive action with the Dade County
School Board to secure the use of Ida M. Fisher classroom space
for use by Leroy D. Fienberg students and uxiLinue Leroy D. Fien-
berg as the elementary school for all children on southern Miami
Beach, and will also assure the retention of the Community School
program at Ida M. Fisher to provide adult education.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of January, 1980 .
