RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH MEMORIAL-
IZING THE FLORIDA DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES
CONGRESS AND THE 1980 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO
ASSIST THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH IN OBTAINING FUND-
ING FOR MIDDLE INCOME HOUSING CONSTRUCTION.
WHEREAS, there are a large number of persons living
within the City of Miami Beach on fixed incomes who are , therefore ,
particularly sensitive to the effects of inflation in general and
unconscionable and extraordinarily large increases in rent in
particular; and
WHEREAS, the recent increase in the conversion of existing
rental units into condominiums has diminished the supply of rental
housing and has created undue hardships for residents displaced by
conversions; and
WHEREAS , the conversion of existing rental units has
adversely affected the availability and cost of rental housing
throughout the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that the Florida Delegation to the United
States and the 1980 Presidential Candidates be respectfully memorial-
ized to immediately deal with this problem and take the necessary
steps to obtain funding for the construction of middle income housing
on Miami Beach.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 5th day of March, 1980 .
