Resolution 2019-30743 RESOLUTION NO., 2019-30743 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE WAIVER OF SPECIAL EVENT FEES FOR THE 2019 AIDS WALK MIAMI EVENT TO BE HELD 'WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH ON APRIL 28, 2019, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $6,126.97. WHEREAS, the 2019 AIDS Walk Miami event, currently scheduled for April 28, 2019, will mark the 31st anniversary of the AIDS Walk, and will feature.a 5K walk-a-thon through certain streets located in the City's South Beach area, commencing and concluding in Soundscape Park, on April 28, 2019; and WHEREAS, the AIDS Walk Miami is conducted by the Care Resource Community Health Centers, Inc. d/b/a CARE RESOURCE, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, multi-cultural, community- based AIDS service organization serving the South Florida community for more than thirty (30) years; and WHEREAS, the AIDS Walk Miami event is Miami's largest HIV/AIDS awareness fundraiser which attracts thousands of participants in support of funds for the Care Resource Community Health Centers and the Food for Life Network food bank; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends, and the Mayor and City Commission approve, the waiver of special event fees, in the total amount of $6,126.97, for the 2019 AIDS Walk Miami event, which represents $250.00 in application fees, $250.00 in permit fees, $150.00 in vehicle beach access passes, $824.97 in square footage fees, $2,492.00 in Soundscape Park user fees, and $2,160.00 in police administrative fees. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve the waiver of special event fees for the AIDS Walk Miami event to be held within the City of Miami Beach on April 28, 2019, in an amount not to exceed $6,126.97. RECOMMENDATION The Administration recommends approving the special event fees, in the amount not to exceed $6,126.97, for AIDS Walk Miami. ANALYSIS The 2019 AIDS Walk Miami will mark the 31st anniversary of the event. Once again, the event will feature a 5K walk-a-thon through the streets of South Beach. The walk will begin and close in Soundscape Park, on April 28, 2019. AIDS Walk Miami is conducted by the Care Resource Community Health Centers, Inc. d/b/a CARE RESOURCE, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, multi-cultural, community-based AIDS service organization serving the South Florida community for the last thirty years. AIDS Walk Miami is a 5K (3.1 mile) walk-a-thon fundraiser that amplifies awareness of the impact HIV/AIDS continues to have on our community by honoring those living with the disease and memorializing those who have passed on. All money raised supports Care Resource and stays here in South Florida. The funds raised by AIDS Walk Miami allow Care Resource and its Food For Life Network Food Bank to continue providing critical help to the 17,000+ individuals annually who depend on its essential services: primary medical and dental care, HIV and STI testing, case management, counseling, prevention education, housing, food and nutritional assistance, and much more.
