Resolution 80-16337 RESOLUTION NO. 80-16337 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ISSU- ANCE OF A PURCHASE ORDER CONTRACT TO PROVIDE ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR CETA SUBSIDIZED EMPLOYEES. WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the City of Miami Beach will be a party to a Subgrant Agreement with the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium (SFETC) providing employment and training services to approximately fifty (50) Cuban and Haitian refugees; and WHEREAS, the Administration has recommended that a certain Purchase Order Contract be issued to M.T. I. School, Inc . , as delin- eated in Commission Memorandum No. 8362 ; and WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it to be in the best interest of the City and its citizens to authorize the issuance of said Purchase Order Contract; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager be, and he is hereby authorized to approve and issue a Purchase Order Contract in the amount of $31,452. 00 to M.T. I. School , Inc. , to provide five months of English as a Second Language training classes to approx- imately fifty (50) CETA subsidized City employees . The City of Miami Beach will hire fifty (50) such persons. As these funds have been issued under Title IID of CETA, these employees must be City of Miami Beach residents, and a minimum of 15% of such funds must be used for training. Therefore, it is the Administration's intent to contract for English as a Second Language training classes, two days per week, for each of two groups of twenty five (25) employees. Previous solicitations from local training organizations revealed that M.T. I. School , Inc. , currently presenting Typing Skills training programs for the City, was the lower cost trainer of the two proposals received. AWARD AMOUNT AND FUNDING: $31,452.000. Funds are available in Account No. 2-138-1834-551.367 (CETA funds) ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission award a professional services contract to M.T. I . School , Inc. , as detailed above.
