Resolution 80-16389 RESOLUTION NO. 80-16389 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD TO DESIGNATE PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS TO PERFORM THE SERVICE AGREED UPON BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA. WHEREAS, the governments of the United States and the Peoples Republic of China have entered into an agreement providing for the establishment of air transport service between their two territories ; and WHEREAS, under the agreement the United States is , for the first two years , limited to the designation of only one U. S. air carrier to provide the agreed upon service and thus must choose, from among a number of competent U. S. air carriers, the one best qualified to provide the initial service ; and WHEREAS, in view of the deep interest of the State of Florida and all of its communities in the development of inter— national trade and commerce and their success in taking advantage of all opportunities to expand participation in such activities , the needs of Florida for air transport service to China must be taken into account by the U. S. government in making this choice; and WHEREAS, Pan American World Airways presently provides extensive and convenient service for Florida cities to the Far East and with little change in operations or increase in expense could promptly extend this service to Shanghai and Beijing ; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Civil Aeronautics Board be urged to designate Pan American World Airways to perform the services agreed on between the United States and the Peoples Republic of China.
