Resolution 80-16459 • RESOLUTION NO. 80-16459 RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO PASS AND THE PRESIDENT TO SIGN LEGISLA- TION REAUTHORIZING THE GENERAL REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is considering legislation which will extend the General Revenue Sharing Program; and WHEREAS, the program must be reauthorized during the Congressional session beginning November 12th, 1980; and WHEREAS, S. 2574 and H. R. 7112 call for this reauthoriza- tion and the President has indicated support for the program' s continuation; and WHEREAS, the General Revenue Sharing Program has the lowest administrative costs of any of the federal assistance programs, is distributed on a fair and equitable basis, and provides recipient jurisdictions much needed flexibility in delivering locally determined services and programs; and WHEREAS, The City of Miami Beach has anticipated the receipt of $536, 463. 00 in General Revenue Sharing funds for Fiscal Year 1980- 81, which is primarily pledged to critically needed fire and police protection; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that we strongly urge the Congress to take up and pass, and the President to sign, legislation reauthorizing the General Revenue Sharing Program.
