A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION
TO ACTS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST RACIAL, RELIGIOUS
AND ETHNIC MINORITIES.
WHEREAS, certain extremist organizations are committing
acts of violence and terrorism against racial, religious, and eth-
nic minorities, contrary to the American tradition; and
WHEREAS, the United Nations has since 1948 sponsored and
advocated ratification of the Genocide Convention Resolution to
ameliorate the effects of such organized racism and terrorism;
WHEREAS, the Commission has learned of a resurgence of
violence in the United States and Europe against racial, religious
and ethnic minorities, including the bombing of synagogues and the
assassination of blacks by neo-nazi and members of the Ku Klux
Klan; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
seeks to express its determined opposition to acts of violence
against racial, religious or ethnic minorities by the above-named
organizations and kindred groups;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission of the
City of Miami Beach urges the United States Senate to ratify the
1948 United Nations Genocide Convention Resolution, and that the
Congress of the United States enact, and the President of the Uni-
ted States execute, statutes pursuant to the Convention, restrict-
ing and penalizing acts of violence against racial, ethnic and
religious minorities.
