RESOLUTION NO. 81-16596
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, HONORING THE AS-
SOCIATION FOR THE WELFARE OF SOLDIERS IN ISRAEL.
WHEREAS, the brave and valiant citizens of the State of
Israel are the bulwark of the democracy and protectors of freedom
in the Middle East and continue to be an inspiration to all true
freedom-loving people in the world; and
WHEREAS, the Israeli army has been repeatedly called
upon to defend its nation' s survival and the survival of freedom
in the world and always performed with a valor that has been an
inspiration to all of mankind; and
WHEREAS, every able-bodied adult in Israel is a citizen-
soldier , all on constant alert for the call to arms as intransi-
gent enemies daily declare their intention to raze his homeland to
the ground and decimate its population; and
WHEREAS, the heavy burden of taxation in Israel for de-
fense expenditure leaves little enough for the conveniences of
life , the Association for the Welfare of Soldiers in Israel was
formed as an entirely volunteer organization to provide support to
ease the rigors of life for the soldiers as they risk their lives
in defense of their nation; and
WHEREAS, Israel has always opened its doors to homeless
Jews from all areas of the world, many of whom arrive without the
benefits of a basic education and the Association for the Welfare
of Soldiers in Israel has , in addition to providing comforts and
services to the soldiers, undertaken the worthy and noble task of
educating those soldiers who have lacked the opportunity of receiv-
ing even a basic education; and
WHEREAS, General (Res. ) "Natke" Nir , Chairman, and Lt.
Col. (Res. ) David Laor , General Director for Foreign Affairs of
the Association for. the Welfare of Soldiers in Israel , have already
been declared honorary citizens of the City of Miami Beach and are
in our city to promote this cherished organization;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that by the adoption of this
Resolution, the Miami Beach City Commission honors the Association
for the Welfare of Soldiers in Israel and recognizes the importance
and value of their efforts on behalf of freedom-loving people every-
where.
