SUBJECT: Motions by the Police Citizens R lations Committee — March 19, 2019
and April 16, 2019.
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and the Commission
of two motions made by the Police Citizen Relations Committee at their meeting on March 19,
2019 and three motions made at the meeting on April 16, 2019.
MOTION #1 (March 19, 2019): Motion made by Seth Feuer to direct the Police Department to
schedule a public community forum type of meeting in the next month or so for the Police
Department to discuss and respond to questions regarding spring break issues and responses.
The motion was seconded by Bruce Reich and was accepted by acclamation.
MOTION #2 (March 19, 2019: Motion made by Adam Kravitz to direct the Police Department to
conduct a study on the causes of violence, crime and other problems during the spring break
weekends and other high impact weekends, and prepare and produce a report to the Committee
and the City Commission on this. Motion was seconded by Alex Fernandez and passed by
acclamation.
MOTION # 3 (April 16, 2019): Motion made by Alex Fernandez to thank the Miami Beach
Police Department and its on-duty personnel for "above and beyond" conduct and performance
during the spring break weekends, including working long hours, adding barricades, calling in
mutual aid to supplement staffing, rigorously enforcing residential boundaries and open container
ordinances and conducting the LPR detail on 5th street. The motion was seconded by Adam
Kravitz and accepted by acclamation.
MOTION #4 (April 16, 2019): Motion made by Alex Fernandez to recognize the contributions of
the Public Safety Communications Department for National Telecommunications Week.
Seconded by Daniel Aronson and accepted by acclamation.
MOTION # 5 (APRIL 16, 2019): Motion made by Alex Fernandez urging the City Commission to
amend Section 102-377 of the City Code to enhance the civil fines against promoters and/or the
businesses in which they operate to a minimum of $20,0000 when the required business tax
receipt is not obtained by the promoter. Motion was seconded by Julian Linares. (6 - YES votes
and 2 - NO votes)
