A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE ESTAB-
LISHMENT OF THE MIAMI BEACH SWEEPSTAKES LOTTERY
AS THE CITY' S PRINCIPAL LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY
DURING THE UPCOMING LEGISLATIVE SESSION, DIRECT-
ING L. GARY SMITH AS STATE LOBBYIST, TO DIRECT HIS
EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AC-
CORDINGLY AND FURTHER DIRECTING MR. SMITH TO PROVIDE
WRITTEN MONTHLY STATUS REPORTS .
WHEREAS, the citizens of Miami Beach and the City of
Miami have overwhelmingly endorsed, by referendum, the concept
of a state wide lottery; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has retained the services
of L. Gary Smith as state lobbyist on behalf of the interests of the
City of Miami Beach and the people thereof; and
WHEREAS , the establishment of the Miami Beach Sweepstakes
Lottery will produce additional revenues for services otherwise
requiring an increase and/or reallocation of tax revenues ; and
WHEREAS , the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach
considers the establishment thereof to be its principal legislative
priority for the upcoming legislative session ; and
WHEREAS, by virtue thereof the City Commission deems the
submission of monthly status reports by Mr. Smith both desirable and
necessary;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
That the Miami Beach Sweepstakes Lottery be and the same
is hereby declared to be the principal legislative priority of the
City of Miami Beach during the upcoming legislative session , and that
L. Gary Smith, as state lobbyist be and the same is hereby directed
to assign his efforts accordingly and to provide written monthly
status reports with respect thereto.
