A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE MIAMI
BEACH CHARTER REGARDING STAGGERED TERMS OF
CITY COMMISSIONERS TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE
ELECTORATE AT A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
MARCH 13 , 1984 AT THE TIME OF THE PRESIDENT'S
PREFERENCE PRIMARY.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, a Special Election of the City of Miami Beach
will be held on March 13 , 1984 at the time of the President' s
Preference Primary; and
WHEREAS the following proposed Charter Amendment
pertaining to paragraph 11 of section 8 of the Miami Beach City
Charter will be submitted to the electorate at the March 13, 1984
Special Election:

term of twe years- Notwithstanding any other
provisions of this Charter , commencing
November, 1985, all City Commissioners shall
be elected at large, and a separate election
shall be held for the election of a Mayor .
The Mayor and all subsequent Mayors shall
serve two-year terms. The three Commissioners
receiving the highest, second and third
highest number of votes shall serve four-year
terms, expiring in an election to be held in
November, 1989 , and shall be designated Group
I , II , and III , respectively. The remaining
three Commissioners shall serve two-year
terms, expiring in an election to be held in
November , 1987, and shall be designated Group
IV, V, and VI , respectively. All subsequent
Commissioners shall be elected for four-year
terms and shall be elected in the group he has
qualified in.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the proposed
Charter Amendment pertaining to paragraph 11 of section 8 of the
Miami Beach City Charter is approved for submission to the
electorate at the Special Election to be held on March 13, 1984 .
