RESOLUTION NO. 83-17601
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE MIAMI
BEACH CHARTER REGARDING STAGGERED TERMS OF
CITY COMMISSIONERS TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE
ELECTORATE AT A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
MARCH 13 , 1984 AT THE TIME OF THE PRESIDENT'S
PREFERENCE PRIMARY, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION
NO. 83-17579.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 .
WHEREAS, a Special Election of the City of Miami Beach
will be held on March 13 , 1984 at the time of the President ' s
Preference Primary; and
WHEREAS the following proposed Charter Amendment
pertaining to paragraph 11 of section 8 of the Miami Beach City
Charter will be submitted to the electorate at the March 13, 1984
Special Election:
Eemmeneng with the General Bleeder en

thereaf ter; all Eemmissleners and the Mayer of
the E1ty ef M1ami. Beaeh shall be eleeted fer a
term ef twe years- Notwithstanding any other
provisions of this Charter , within 90 days
after the March 13 , 1984 special election,
three Commission groups shall be selected by
the City Commission either by voluntary
agreement or by lot, to serve two-year terms,
commencing in an election to be held in
November , 1985; the remaining three commission
groups shall serve four-year terms commencing
in an election to be held in November , 1985 .
The Mayor shall serve two-year terms. All
subsequent Commission groups shall be elected
for four-year terms.
SECTION 2 .
Resolution No. 83-17579, passed and adopted on December
7 , 1983 be and the same is hereby repealed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the proposed
Charter Amendment pertaining to paragraph 11 of section 8 of the
Miami Beach City Charter is approved for submission to the
electorate at the Special Election to be held on March 13 , 1984;
and that Resolution No. 83-17579 , passed and adopted on December
7, 1983 be and the same is hereby repealed.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of Decerther , 1983 .
