A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE
CREATION OR ESTABLISHMENT OF RELATIONS
BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE
ISLAND NATION OF CUBA.
WHEREAS, the light of freedom which bathes this republic
has been eclipsed upon the shores of the island nation of Cuba by
the shadow of communism; and
WHEREAS, the shadow of communism, lurking in the
Caribbean, shrouds the world in its darkness; and
WHEREAS, this wicked design has been frustrated by the
unmitigated determination of the United States to withhold the
establishment of diplomatic and economic relations with this
international menace; and
WHEREAS, this policy has extracted a heavy toll upon the
Soviet surrogate as manifested by the non-existence of an
internationally recognized currency exchange rate of Cuban pesos
to U.S. dollars; and
WHEREAS , this pariah is sustained by the Soviet
extension of trade credits and a currency unsupported by precious
metal or other basis of value; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of relations with Cuba will
enrich the coffers of this Marxist regime with American dollars
for investment in the export of terrorism and revolution; and
WHEREAS , the establishment of relations between the
United States and Cuba will serve only to increase the flow of
U.S . dollars to Cuba for such investment.
WHEREAS, any recognition of Cuba, by the United States,
whether diplomatic or economic, will serve the singular interest
of the Soviet Union;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT this City' s opposition to
the establishment of relations between the United States and Cuba
be and the same is hereby expressed.
